Addictions Recovery Support Meetings It was through the meetings at Whitecrow that I really made the commitment to stay clean and sober. The meetings were small and not intimidating, the atmosphere was always supportive and positive and the people there showed that they genuinely cared about my well being. L.I.F.E. Sessions Participant
Whitecrow Village is committed to offering support for addictions recovery processes in a healthy, stable, and supportive context that recognises the unique needs for those with FASD. In response to the many requests of L.I.F.E Session participants for “FASD-friendly” addiction recovery support meetings in their communities, Whitecrow Village has partnered with Vancouver Island Health Authority and the FASD Community Circle to develop a pilot FASD Addiction Recovery Support Group in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. This modified 12-Step meeting is a self-help, peer-support group for people living with FASD who want to change their relationship with alcohol and other drugs and enjoy a healthier, happier life. Each participant will determine the nature of the change(s) they want to make and for which they seek support. Meetings are facilitated by individuals who have experience with Addiction Recovery as well as specialized FASD training. The FASD Addiction Recovery Support Group is open to including any strategies or approaches that support positive change. Specialized curriculum has been developed that builds upon the strengths of a variety of “recovery“ approaches and the unique strengths and needs of people living with FASD. Group facilitators will adapt meetings to include special issues and topics identified by group participants.
